📌 Dokichat Character Creation Rules

To help users find the characters they truly like more easily, while also protecting the creative rights of all creators, DokiChat now classifies characters on the platform into three main categories.
When publishing a character, please select the appropriate category based on the standards below.

DokiChat is committed to supporting a healthy original-creation ecosystem. At present, only Original Characters are eligible for on-platform visibility, including search and recommendations, as well as creator-specific incentives and benefits.
Non-original characters will not be included in search or recommendation pools, and will not be eligible for any incentive programs or event rewards.

Please make sure to classify your character truthfully and accurately. Any attempt to deliberately misclassify a character, mislead the system, or infringe upon copyright is strictly prohibited.

Once verified, the violating character will be removed and banned immediately. In serious cases, the account may face permanent suspension.

▎ Categories and Detailed Explanations

• Original

• Definition: The character’s concept, background, and personality are entirely independently created by the creator, without relying on any existing film, anime, game, or real-life person. 

• Characteristic: You hold the full rights to the character. 

• Partially Original

• Definition: The character’s core setup—such as personality, backstory, and dialogue logic—is independently created by the creator, but the character image itself is not created by that creator. 

• Characteristic: The creator has obtained permission to use the non-original image, but holds full original rights only over the written character setup. 

• Fanwork 

• Definition: A derivative work based on an existing title, such as a popular anime, mobile game, novel, or film. 

• Characteristic: The character uses names, worldbuilding, or a specific character framework from someone else’s work.

▎ How do you tell “Original” apart from “Fanwork”?

Many creators wonder: “My character was inspired by certain settings—does it still count as original?”
 Our standard follows a core principle of international copyright law: copyright protects concrete expression, not abstract ideas.

• Considered “Original”:
   You only borrow a broad concept such as “a boy attending a magic school,” but give the character a completely new name, a distinct appearance, and an original storyline of your own. 

• Considered “Fanwork”:
   You directly use protected, identifiable elements—for example, making the character “a wizard attending Hogwarts.”

🔍Quick self-check:

• Would the character’s name or appearance make people immediately recognize them as a character from a specific work? 

• Does the character exist within a distinctive world created by a specific author or IP holder? 

• Would users instantly associate this character with a specific IP or celebrity? 

If the answer to any one of the above is “Yes,” please make sure to classify it as Fanwork .

▎ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What if my character is based on mythology or classic legends, such as Greek mythology or Journey to the West?
A: It counts as Original. Materials from the public domain—such as mythology, folklore, and historical legends whose copyright protection has expired—may be freely used by anyone and are treated as original creation on our platform.

Q: What if my character is adapted from a real historical event?
A: That depends on who or what the character itself is modeled after.

• If the background is based on a historical event, but the protagonist is fictional → Original

• If the character is based on a specific real person or an existing identifiable character → Fanwork

Q: What happens if I accidentally choose the wrong category?
A: The platform may correct categories through routine review or based on user reports.
However, if a creator intentionally mislabels a character in order to obtain support reserved for originals—for example, labeling an obvious fan-work as Original—the character will be banned immediately.
Repeated behavior of this kind may result in account suspension or even permanent account termination.
